Two Dear Friends and Their Web Presence

Well, there are two new (to me) websites up, both of them featuring the work of women that I consider to be very good friends and wonderful colleagues.

I had the pleasure of meeting violinist Holly Mulcahy and her husband Drew McManus in early 2006 just as they were preparing to move to Chicago.   Although our meeting was a short one, Drew and Holly have become very good friends and I earnestly look forward to seeing them in person again.    To many of us, Drew is no stranger:   he is regularly quoted as an orchestral business expert in leading traditional media outlets including both the New York Times and the Chicago Tribune, and his insight into the business can be read daily at Adaptistration.   This is just one of Drew's many activities, and you can read more about him at his website.

Holly (what a small world:  during our 2006 meeting we remembered meeting each other at an Oregon Symphony audition in 1998) is equally accomplished:   currently a candidate for the position of concertmaster with Orchestra Iowa and both the Chattanooga and Columbus symphonies, Holly has enjoyed a pretty tremendous musical career that includes orchestral and chamber music performance.   She is also a brilliant and thoughtful writer, having served as one of the authors of Neo Classical:   Holly Mulcahy on the Future of Classical Music since 2007.

And speaking of writers....San Francisco resident Terez Rose is a writer whose stories and essays have appeared in Crab Orchard Review, Literary Mama, Espresso Fiction, the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.   Her work has also appeared in many anthologies and at violinist.com, where we first heard of each other.   Terez has started a blog titled The Classical Girl:   Musings on Classical Music, The Violin, Ballet and Life and has to date written some very beautiful essays on concert experiences in San Francisco, among other topics.

I sincerely hope that you all will get the same pleasure and insight from the two of them that I have.

More soon,
Sam
