Sharing the Good News

With the presence of so much disturbing news about America's orchestras, one would think that many people - including musicians, supporters, donors, and administrators - would "lose the faith".

Fortunately, this is not always the case, as there are always flowers growing through the sidewalk cracks.   In his book The Seat of the Soul, Gary Zukav shares that "when a soul succeeds in accomplishing its goal, in fulfilling what it has agreed to do, there is a richness and a specialness to the lifetime of that personality that is recognized and honored by its fellow souls, both physical and nonphysical."

Just a few days ago, a very good friend of four years announced that she won an audition for the piccolo position with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra.    If anyone is deserving both of this position and the many congratulations that she has received, ElenaYakovlela is - undoubtedly, as she is one of the most hard-working, focused, and generous people that I have had the pleasure of meeting.

Congratulations, Elena - I am proud to call you my friend, and wish you all the best in this next phase of your musical journey.
